Georgia’s Revenue Service on Tuesday said its professionals had prevented an attempt of smuggling of undeclared gold items and money over the Sarpi border crossing checkpoint with Turkey in the south-west of the country in two separate cases last week.
In the former case, a “large amount” of undeclared gold items - weighing in at 402,08 grams and worth ₾47,214 ($17,488) - was seized during physical and luggage searches of foreign citizens.
In the latter violation, customs officers prevented an attempted smuggling of undeclared gold items - weighing in at 328,46 grams - and also seized $40,000 in undeclared money from a foreign individual at the checkpoint.
The body added the cases had been handed over to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance.
