Georgian customs officers seized $20,197 in undeclared gold items on the Sarpi border crossing with Turkey in the south-west and the Sadakhlo border crossing point on the country's southern border with Armenia, the Revenue Service said this week.
The Service said the items - weighing in at 375.91 grams in total - were seized during physical and luggage searches of Georgian and foreign citizens at the checkpoints.
The body noted four of the offenders were fined ₾27,524 ($20,197) for the offence, while the case of one foreign citizen had been handed over to the Investigation Service of the country’s Finance Ministry for further action.
