Georgian customs officers seized ₾142,418 ($53,046) worth of undeclared gold items on the Sarpi border crossing checkpoint with Turkey in the south-west of the country, the Revenue Service announced on Monday.
The Service said the items - weighing in at 1403,28 grams - were seized during “detailed inspection” of a vehicle driven by a foreign citizen, with the objects, bundled in three packages, found in a concealed compartment.
The body also said the case had been handed over to the Investigation Service of the country’s Finance Ministry for further action.
