The domestic opposition party European Georgia has joined the Unity - National Movement platform, the UNM Chair Tina Bokuchava said on Saturday.
“We are getting even stronger because another pro-Western, European People's Party member party - European Georgia and its leader Gigi Tsereteli have joined the Unity - National Movement ahead of the [upcoming October parliamentary] elections”, Bokuchava noted.
The UNM Chair also added that the imprisoned former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was the “main motivator” of this unity.
In early August, Giga Bokeria, the Chair of European Georgia, left the party over “disagreement and serious controversy concerning the way of conducting primaries” and formed a new party Federalists together with Tamar Chergoleishvili, one of the former leaders of European Georgia.
Earlier in July, Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, Sopo Japaridze, the UNM member, and public figures Armaz Akhvlediani, Lasha Bakradze, Gia Japaridze and Tamar Kordzaia joined the Unity platform as well.
