Georgian athletes in judo, swimming and boxing appeared in their fixtures at the Paris Summer Olympic Games on Sunday and Monday without scoring medal-winning results.
European Champion Vazha Margvelashvili was defeated by home favourite Walide Khyar 0:10 in the 66 kg weight category and ended his participation in the Games without a medal.
Noe Pantskhava contested the 100-metre backstroke swimming to end up 41st out of 46 competitors in the qualifying round to also be eliminated from the tournament.
Giorgi Kushitashvili, a European Champion and World Championship bronze medal-winning boxer in the 92 kg weight category, was defeated by Tajikistan’s Davlat Boltaev 1:2 in his closing fixture.
Judoka Eter Liparteliani was defeated by her French counterpart Sarah-Léonie Cysique 0:11 in the 57 kg weight category, while Lasha Shavdatuashvili also lost 0:10 to a French rival, Joan-Benjamin Gaba, in the round of 32 of the 73 kg category.
Boxer Lasha Guruli will face Azerbaijan’s Malik Hasanov in the round of 16 of the 63.5 kg weight category on Monday, while judo wrestler Tato Grigalashvili will compete against Moldovan Mihail Latisev in the round of 32 of the 81 kg and Eter Askilashvili will face Slovenia’s Andreja Leški in the round of 32 of the 63 kg section respectively on Tuesday.
