Four Georgian athletes perform at first day of Paris Summer Olympic Games

Four Georgian athletes performed at the Paris Summer Olympic Games on Saturday. The first day of the Olympics concluded without medals for Georgia. 

Georgian judoka, world champion Giorgi Sardalashvili on Saturday claimed his first victory in the -60 kg weight category, defeating Israeli Yam Wolczak in round 16. During the quarter finals 21 years old judoka lost against Turkish Salih Yildiz during an extra, but defeated Korean Kim Won Jin. 

Georgian shooter Nino Salukvadze scored 562 points, took 38th place out of 45 and didn’t advance to Sunday’s eight-shooter final. She gets another shot at a medal August 2 in qualification for the 25 metre pistol event.

Sandro Bazadze, right-handed sabre fencer who participated in the Olympics for the third time and holds silver and bronze medals defeated Mexican Gibran Zea with score 15:6, but lost to Mohamed Amer with a score of 14:15.  The fencer believed the Spanish match referee Vanesa Chichon mistreated him at the match when she claimed victory for Amer.

The Georgian Fencing Federation sent a complaint letter to the President of the Referee Commission of the International Fencing Federation on Saturday, naming all the details why the two time European champion considers he has been treated unfairly.  

Ana Nizharadze, the youngest Georgian participant debuted at the Paris Olympics at the París La Défense Arena in swimming for Women's 100m butterfly discipline, ended the competition by taking 28 place out of 31.

In the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, 28 athletes from Georgia are competing in 10 sports: trampoline jumping, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, boxing, athletics, shooting, fencing, swimming, weightlifting and judo. 

Georgia's Judoka Margvelashvili, boxer Giorgi Kushitashvili and swimmer Noe Pantskhava are scheduled to perform on Sunday.
