Hungarian FM vows to support Georgia’s EU integration path

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Friday said his Government would continue to support “with full strength” Georgia’s European Union integration process.

In remarks at a press conference with the visiting Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili, Szijjártó highlighted Georgia’s “great” economic growth.

The top Hungarian diplomat further noted that “countries with such rapid development” could provide “serious impetus” for the bloc.

This visit and this discussion [with Darchiashvili] has provided me with the opportunity to assure the Georgian counterpart that Hungary will continue to support with full strength the EU integration and intentions of Georgia”, Szijjártó said.

“I also assured Mr. Minister that during the period of Hungarian presidency of the EU Council, we’ll do everything in our power in order to ensure that the integration process of Georgia advances. Georgia performs excellently with great economic growth, and we believe that countries with such rapid development could provide serious impetus, momentum for the European Union”, Szijjártó concluded.

The officials also signed an agreement between their governments on the promotion and mutual protection of investments later today.
