Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday highlighted his participation in the European Political Community Summit in the United Kingdom alongside world leaders.

The PM emphasised that a note specifically about Georgia was made in a joint document of the European Political Community Summit, highlighting the “special importance” of the country in terms of energy connectivity and transit function in general.

"I had the opportunity to speak on the issue of energy connectivity, which was one of the main topics discussed at this Summit. [...] Our country [Georgia] is constantly working to further strengthen its transit function, which is especially important in light of the geopolitical situation that has developed in Ukraine since the beginning of the war [with Russia]. We have a lot of resources to outline the function of our country in this regard, including within the framework of the Middle Corridor initiative [logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus]", he noted.

Kobakhidze also said he had shared with his colleagues information about his Government’s ten ongoing and planned projects that “serve to strengthen” Georgia’s transit function, especially in the field of energy.

The head of the Government also held bilateral meetings with officials from different European countries and organisations, “using the format of the event to share the messages” related to the “national interests” of Georgia and discuss the relations between Georgia and the European Union with all the attending leaders. “As soon as the political situation” in the Black Sea region “calms down”, the “attitude towards Georgia will immediately change”, Kobakhidze added.
