Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday extended his congratulations to the United States and its citizens on their 248th anniversary since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by saying the date was “particularly important for us”.
In his comments to the media at an event held on the occasion, Kobakhidze expressed his Government’s desire for a “reboot” in relations between the countries, adding there had been “several years that damaged the relations between the two states”.
The US plays an important role in the world - therefore, special significance is given to this day. This day is especially important for us, due to the fact that we have a strategic partnership with the US”, he said.
I would like to repeat once again that it is our desire to reboot relations. There have been some years that have damaged relations between the two states, but I am optimistic. We are on standby, waiting for the reciprocal steps”, the official added.
Kobakhidze added he hoped the steps would “qualitatively improve relations within the next year”, which he said was “equally needed for both sides”.
