Georgian national football team welcomed in Tbilisi after Euro 2024 debut

The national football team of Georgia received a welcome from fans on their return to Tbilisi on Tuesday following their impressive debut performance in the ongoing European Championship in Germany.

The squad arrived on a Cologne - Tbilisi flight after their exit following a last 16 knockout round defeat to Spain on Sunday.

The players were met with an enthusiastic reception by a large number of supporters who chanted "Thank you, Georgia" to show their delight at the team’s first-ever appearance at the Championship.

In further celebration of the team’s success, an event is scheduled to be hosted on Freedom Square in the capital at 10 pm, where the team bus will arrive after passing through the city streets for jubilant supporters.

The national team made history by advancing to the round of 16 in their debut Championship appearance. Despite a defeat in their opening match against Turkey, the team’s performances against Czechia and a famous win over Portugal in Group stage games secured their spot among the top 16 teams in Europe.

The squad were defeated 4-1 by Spain in the knockout round.
