Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Jeyhun Bayramov, the visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, on Thursday discussed the strategic partnership between the countries and the current situation in the South Caucasus region.
The officials highlighted the economic cooperation and projects of regional significance and emphasised the importance of joint efforts in the implementation of large-scale infrastructural and energy projects, the Government Administration said.
The parties also pointed out the special importance of the projects aimed at strengthening transit and logistics function, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route that passes through Georgia and is the logistical part of the corridor that connects Europe and Asia, the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project, a new transmission route to deliver green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe, and the Anaklia deep sea port project, earmarked to be built in Georgia’s Black Sea town to ensure increased logistical capability between Asia and Europe.
Bayramov congratulated Kobakhidze on the Georgian national football team’s advancement to the knockout round, as the best third-placed team, after defeating Portugal 2-0 in their final group stage match on Wednesday at the ongoing European Championship in Germany.
