Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who is on a visit to Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, on Thursday highlighted the importance of the “high-level relationship” between the two countries.
Bayramov noted the agenda of his meeting with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili concerned political dialogue and close relations at the international level in the United Nations, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and other organisations.
“We talked about various aspects of the strategic cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as the historic results achieved so far, as well as the current state of our relationship and the next stages. A high-level relationship is very important in such intensive cooperation. Such a close relationship between the countries is very multifaceted and intensively implemented”, Bayramov said.
He also added the meeting focused on economic cooperation, with the trade turnover between the two countries increasing by 15 percent last year.
“Azerbaijan is among the largest investors in Georgia, with the largest investment in the history of Georgia, 3.4 billion dollars”, he continued.
He also noted that the two states were “traditionally participating in very important strategic directions”, including transport and communication.
While talking about these issues, we focused on increasing the potential of the Middle Corridor [route between Central Asia and Europe through the South Caucasus] and increasing the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway through the territory of Georgia, with the participation of Azerbaijan”, the diplomat noted.
Bayramov also highlighted the historic success of the Georgian national football team at the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.
“I believe that this visit coincides with a very important time. We have seen the historic achievement of the Georgian national football team", he said.
The top Azerbaijani diplomat also informed his Georgian counterpart about the current situation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, and pointed out the circumstances had marked a “very positive trend in recent months”.
