Georgian President congratulates Alain Berset on being elected as CoE Sec Gen

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Wednesday congratulated Alain Berset on being elected as the 15th Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Berset was elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Tuesday, with 114 votes, for a five-year term beginning on 18 September, replacing Marija Pejčinović Burić in the position.

In her social media post, Zourabichvili noted Berset’s “leadership will be crucial in these vital times”.

The President also extended her gratitude to Burić for her “outstanding leadership and commitment”.
