The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Monday said a United States Department of State report had reaffirmed the “highest” rating for the country’s authorities for the ninth consecutive year for their work for combating human trafficking.
Published on Monday, the report noted the Government had strengthened law enforcement measures in the fight against the crime and praised consequences defined in the domestic criminal code.
The report also highlighted the presence of specialised anti-trafficking units, such as the Anti-Trafficking and Illegal Migration Division of the Central Criminal Police Department and its six mobile groups and the specialised Task Force operating in the western Adjara region.
The units conduct proactive inspections of high-risk trafficking venues, including nightclubs, bars and casinos, the report said.
The Ministry added the report had been accompanied by recommendations from the Department of State for “further reinforcing” the work in various areas in the country.
