Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday highlighted the German Government’s “special efforts” in making Georgia a full-fledged member of the European family, by saying Germany had always been “actively involved” in the development of the country after restoration of independence in 1991.

In his comments at a reception dedicated to the Independence Day of Georgia, hosted in Berlin, Darchiashvili said Germany had always been a “strong supporter” of the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

We are very happy with the fact that today in Berlin, with the participation of the Georgian Embassy and the participation of the [Georgian] Prime Minister, we have the opportunity to host our German friends, representatives of the Georgian diaspora at the event celebrating the Independence Day of Georgia”, he said.

It is symbolic that Germany is a symbol of unification, and we expressed our desire from Berlin to reunify Georgia very soon. There is no alternative to our peace policy, and we will do our best to make our country a united, unified member of the European family very soon”, the country’s top diplomat added.
