Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara is welcoming visitors for the summer season with new tourist trails, picnic areas and other infrastructure, the Tourism Department of the western region said on Tuesday.

The region’s visitor areas have 25 designated tourist trails for the remains of the 10th-11th century CE Khikhani Fort, tourist shelters for alpine plateaus of Jvarimindori, renovated infrastructure of the Mirveti village trail and picnic areas across all municipalities.

The body added visitors to the regional capital of Batumi could enjoy the recently renovated Alley of Heroes, along with new dining and accommodation options.

The Administration also said the official opening of the tourist season in Batumi this week was marked by a two-day Summer Festival in the city, which commenced with a drama show and a costumed procession.

It also featured performances by popular domestic bands Mgzavrebi, Salio, Kakhaberi da Khanumebi, Ursa and Sakhe, while a dedicated exhibition space showcased local handicrafts, providing an opportunity for visitors to purchase authentic products by local producers.

The Administration said Kobuleti, another seaside city of the region, would be the next to host the Festival in July.
