Georgia’s Black Sea city of Batumi is set to have a new indoor sports complex that includes an ice rink and swimming pool built to “international standards”, the Government Administration said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reviewed details of the project earlier today while visiting the city as part of a handover of flats to eco-migrant residents of its “Dream Town” settlement.

The Administration said a tender had been announced for the construction of the complex and the works would commence “in the near future”.

The body added the facilities would be designed according to international Olympic standards, with the ice rink slated to host the Youth Winter Olympics in 2025.

Additionally, an artistic gymnastics hall will be included in the venue, while the main pool set to be designed for a 50-metre distance.

Once completed, the project will provide Batumi with a venue capable of accommodating 1,500 spectators and the pool with a capacity of 800.
