Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to the country on Thursday, the Georgian Government Administration said.
Kobakhidze will be welcomed at the Presidential Complex in Turkey, before the two leaders meet in face-to-face and extended formats and make comments for the press.
The Georgian delegation also involves, Levan Davitashvili, the first Vice Prime Minister and Economy Minister, Irakli Chikovani, the Vice Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili, the Foreign Minister and Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education and Science.
Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Health Minister, Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of the Government of the western region of Adjara and Levan Zhorzholiani, the Head of the Government Administration are also in the delegation.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish President, on Friday extended his “sincere” congratulations to Irakli Kobakhidze on his appointment as the country’s new Prime Minister.
The “strategic partnership” between Georgia and Turkey was discussed on Friday in a meeting between Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Ali Kaan Orbai, the Turkish Ambassador to the country.
Giorgi Janjgava, the Georgian Ambassador to Turkey, on Thursday said “all indicators” of ties between the two countries, from trade turnover to tourism figures, had reached a “record level”.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, who is visiting Turkey, will meet the country’s top officials on Thursday to discuss ways of further strengthening the strategic partnership between the states, the Georgian foreign office said.
Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister on Thursday said Georgia “holds a special place” as Turkey’s neighbour and strategic partner, following the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili, who is on an official visit to the country.
