Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday discussed bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including politics, trade, economy, agriculture, transport, investment, tourism, and culture, with Erlan Qoşanov, the Chair of the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Kazakhstan - Mäjilis.

At the meeting, held as part of Papuashvili's visit to the Central Asian region, the sides highlighted the importance of collaboration to leverage the transport and transit potential of the Middle Corridor, the Parliament press office said.

The sides acknowledged the Georgian official’s visit to Kazakhstan as a “favourable opportunity” to further enhance cooperation between the countries and pointed out the “longstanding and close” ties between the Georgian and Kazakh peoples.

The importance of strengthening parliamentary ties, including through friendship groups and sectoral committees, was also emphasised by the officials.

Papuashvili thanked the Kazakh side for its “steadfast support” of Georgia's territorial integrity and extended his condolences over the ongoing disaster in Kazakhstan - severe flooding that has resulted in the evacuation of thousands of people. He offered Georgia's assistance in managing the situation.
