Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday met Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the President of Turkmenistan, to discuss “fruitful” cooperation and the “friendly nature” of relations between the two countries.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of cooperation in trade, economy, transport and logistics, and the development of joint regional projects, the Georgian Parliament said.
Papuashvili, on a visit to the Central Asian region along with a parliamentary delegation, extended his gratitude to Berdimuhamedow for the decision to open monument of the Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli in the country’s capital of Ashgabat.
He said the decision would contribute to a further strengthening of people-to-people ties, and noted it was a “gesture of great respect for Georgian culture and history”.
Berdimuhamedow also expressed his “unwavering” support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
