Government officials and international offices on Tuesday congratulated the Georgian national football team on reaching the first-ever European Championship after their defeat of Greece in a penalty shoot-out in the final qualifier match for Euro 2024 in Tbilisi.
In a social media message, the United States Embassy in Tbilisi highlighted the “historic” victory.
“We congratulate the national team and all the fans on making their dream come true. Congratulations to all of Georgia on this historic victory!”, the message said.
The European Union Delegation in the country said it was celebrating the “historic” win together with Georgia.
The Moldovan President Maia Sandu congratulated Ukraine, Poland and Georgia on qualifying for the upcoming tournament by saying their “hard work” had “paid off”.
The Swedish Embassy congratulated Georgian fans on “making their dream come true” following the victory.
The British Embassy wished Georgia “many more victories” in its comments.
The United Nations Development Programme in Georgia said the team had “many more European victories ahead”.
The Azerbaijani Embassy wished good luck to “Georgian brothers” at the competition.
The Norwegian Ambassador Bergljot Hovland said Georgia’s qualification would make Euro 2024 “even more fun” to watch.
Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, also wished his “Georgian friends” good luck.
The French Ambassador Sheraz Gasri described the development as “another historic moment”.
Javier Colomina, the NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, said he was “happy” for the Georgian friends.
