Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed his confidence in the victory of the Georgian national football team ahead of the final match of the Euro 2024 qualifying stage against Greece.

In his video message about the upcoming match at the Dinamo Arena stadium in Tbilisi, Kobakhidze said Georgia had “the best team that has the desire to win and can win”.

The Georgian national team played its first official match exactly 30 years ago, in 1994. The team was born and grew up before our eyes. We all remember well every step taken by our team, every victory, every goal. Over the last 30 years, we tried 14 times to qualify for the World and European championships, but we could not fulfil our dream even once, but we, loyal fans, never left our team”, the PM said.

“Now we are a step away from realising this dream. We have the best team that has the will to win and can win. I believe that today our guys will put their souls into victory and will write a new page in football history. I believe that Georgia will win today”, he concluded.

A win against Greece on Tuesday will give the Georgian squad, coached by Willy Sagnol, its first-ever spot in a major football tournament.
