The 17th Plenary Meeting of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of the EU Parliaments in Brussels adopted a document that calls for working towards opening accession talks with Georgia, “in line with the merit-based approach”.
The Conference expressed support for the EU enlargement process as “a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity”, and reiterated support for Georgia’s European integration.
It also urged the candidates for membership to intensify, with the assistance of the EU, their reform efforts, particularly in the field of the rule of law.
COSAC reaffirmed its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.
The delegation of the Georgian Parliament’s EU Integration Committee, led by the Committee Chair Maka Botchorishvli, participated in the Plenary Meeting of COSAC, where Botchorishvili highlighted the progress achieved by Georgia on the EU path and stressed the importance of EU enlargement policy.
Botchorishvili also emphasised the need to immediately open accession negotiations with the candidate countries at the Plenary Meeting, hosted in Belgium from Sunday to Tuesday.
