Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's European Union Integration Committee, on Saturday said she expected that the European Council’s further decisions on Georgia, including opening accession negotiations with the country, would be positive, and stressed the need for positive evaluations from the European Commission.

In an interview with Imedi TV channel, Botchorishvili noted Georgia remained on the EU agenda and the Commission's report assessing the country's progress since obtaining the bloc's membership candidate status in December 2023 would be published in the autumn.

She also pointed out the official accession negotiations expected to be opened with Ukraine and Moldova by the EU in the near future and the importance of all this for the bloc’s enlargement in general, emphasising “the EU needs to make decisions in order to take further steps [in the direction of enlargement policy]”.
