Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Monday discussed “priority areas” of cooperation in the energy sector with Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economy said.

The body added the meeting emphasised parallel operation of power transmission systems between Georgia and Turkey.

It was also noted that large infrastructure projects implemented in this direction will contribute to the capacity and reliability of the energy system of Georgia, regional electricity trade with neighbouring countries, and increase in import, export and transit opportunities between [them]”, the Ministry said.

The ministers also discussed cooperation in regional energy projects and highlighted the importance of supplying the energy resources of Central Asia and the South Caucasus to the European market.

The Black Sea electricity cable project - a new transmission route to deliver green energy from the South Caucasus to Europe - was named among the priority directions. The parties agreed to make efforts to make Georgia and Turkey “reliable suppliers” of energy resources to the EU.
