Economy Minister, World Bank Vice President for Europe, Central Asia discuss priority areas of cooperation

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Wednesday discussed priority areas of cooperation with the World Bank during a meeting with Antonella Bassani, the Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the Bank.

The Ministry of Economy said Davitashvili introduced the World Bank delegation to the economic and structural reforms that the Government intended to implement in the medium term in order to ensure higher and sustainable economic growth.

The body added the meeting focused on cooperation in renewable energy, transport and logistics, information technology, communication and other sectors. 

It was noted that Georgia is located on the shortest road connecting Europe and Asia, and therefore it is important for the country to use its geopolitical opportunities in various directions more successfully to become a regional hub”, it said.

The meeting highlighted implementation of the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project - a new transmission route to deliver green energy from the South Caucasus to Europe - and the Anaklia deep sea port project. 

Georgia’s efforts in developing the Middle Corridor, a logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus, and modernise its own transport and logistics infrastructure was also emphasised.  

The Ministry said the World Bank representatives praised economic development trends in the post-pandemic period and promised support for the country’s inclusive development and increased competitiveness.
