Georgia’s Guram Tushishvili, Lasha Bekauri win Tbilisi Judo Grand Slam, national team claim 5 medals

Georgian judokas Guram Tushishvili and Lasha Bekauri on Sunday became winners of the Tbilisi Judo Grand Slam, where the national judo team claimed five medals in total.

In the +100 kg weight category, Tushishvili defeated Ushangi Kokauri, the Georgian judoka who was competing in the tournament on behalf of Azerbaijan, with ippon and earned the gold medal.

Another gold medal was claimed by Bekauri who won the Grand Slam for the second time in a row by winning over his Azerbaijani rival Eljan Hajiyev in the final of the 90 kg weight category.

Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, a Georgian-born, Spanish judoka defeated Canadian Shady El Nahas in the -100 kg weight category winning the gold medal at the tournament.

The 22-year-old judoka Saba Inaneishvili also claimed a bronze medal in the +100 kg category, while Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Eteri Liparteliani became winners of the Grand Slam in their respective weight categories yesterday.

Georgia’s Varlam Liparteliani, an Olympic silver medalist and a multiple prize winner of the World Championships, Masters, Grand Prix and Grand Slams, as well as a three-time winner of the European Championship, ended his career at the Tbilisi Grand Slam today.
