Two Georgian citizens who had been illegally detained by Russian occupation forces were released on Thursday.

The Georgian Security Service said the release had followed its use of the hotline operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission for developments along the occupation line separating the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions from the rest of the country.

It added it had also utilised “all other tools” at the disposal of the Georgian Government to ensure the outcome.
