Challenges in combating corruption were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Aleksi Batiashvili, the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, and Richard Nephew, the Coordinator of the United States Department of State on Global Anti-Corruption.
Batiashvili highlighted Georgia's “leading position” in international rankings on combating corruption, and introduced the Service's duties, functions of its Anti-Corruption Agency and innovations introduced in the direction to the US official.
The First Deputy Head extended his gratitude to the American side for its partnership efforts since the establishment of the Service to develop the capacity of its employees, with the two sides also discussing future cooperation.
The Service said the meeting also included Shota Rizhamadze, the Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Nana Beridze, the Head of the Service’s Administration, Kris Fresonke, the Regional Team Lead of the Department of State’s Global Anti-Corruption Office, and Sarah Rupert, the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Director at the US Embassy in Tbilisi.
