Aspects of the cooperation between Georgia and the International Committee of the Red Cross were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani and Agnes Coutou, the Red Cross Envoy on Missing Persons in the Caucasus.
Akhvlediani focused on the process of searching for missing persons as a result of the armed conflicts in Georgia in the 1990s and the Russia-Georgia war of 2008, the press office of the Ministry said.
The meeting reviewed the results of the “intensive cooperation” between the sides, including the transformation of the ongoing programme to determine the fate of missing persons, which implies a “gradual increase” in the role of relevant state agencies involved in the programme.
Akhvlediani emphasised the importance of the activities of the Red Cross in Georgia and thanked Coutou for the cooperation and humanitarian efforts made by the organisation in the country.
