Georgian Reconciliation Minister briefs CoE delegation on protection of national minorities

Thea Akhvlediani, the Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, on Monday briefed representatives of the Council of Europe over her Government's work on human rights protection, anti-discrimination, civil equality and integration, the Ministry said. 

The monitoring delegation of the CoE's Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities also met with representatives of non-governmental organisations and local self-governments of municipalities densely populated by ethnic minorities.

Akhvlediani said the visit of the delegation aimed at assessing Georgia’s fulfilment of its obligations under the Convention. 

“This time it covers the period of 2017-2021 and is held only once within the five-year monitoring cycle [...] We provided the members of the monitoring delegation with exhaustive and comprehensive information about the opportunities opened for the further integration and strengthening of the multi-ethnic society of our country and the already achieved tangible results and progress, thereby confirming once again that Georgia will continue to fulfil its obligations within the framework of international mechanisms”, she said.
