Former Georgian national football team and Rangers Football Club forward Shota Arveladze and Manchester City legend Giorgi Kinkladze will join the likes of Jaap Stam, Joe Cole and Jermain Defoe in a charity game between Rangers Legends and World Legends at the Scottish club’s Ibrox stadium next month.
Arveladze, who scored 44 goals in 95 games for Rangers between 2001-2005, and Kinkladze, who made an impression in the English Premier League, will also be joined by Rangers legend Barry Ferguson, former Arsenal forward Robin van Persie and other stars in the fixture scheduled in Glasgow for March 26.
Responding to the invitation for him to feature in the charity Weekend of Legends match, Arveladze said it would be “fantastic” to wear the Rangers shirt in front of the fans of the Scottish record title holders again.
I’m one who always likes to be involved in these games. There are some fantastic legends in both squads and it will be an entertaining game for the fans. Always great returning to Ibrox”, the former forward said in his Facebook post on Monday.
Arveladze, who also played for AFC Ajax, was also invited to the Match of Legends last year, with the fixture marking the 150th anniversary of Rangers. The Weekend of Legends game will have its second edition next month, with the inaugural game hosted last year.
Kinkladze made 106 appearances for Manchester City between 1995-1998 and scored 20 goals, later joining Ajax and Derby Country.
