The Georgian Government has ruled to allow Ukrainian citizens to enter the country without visas and stay for two years, extending the standard one-year period.

Published in the Legislative Herald on Friday, the amendment comes to address terms for stay for Ukrainian nationals with the backdrop of the ongoing war in their country.

The original terms for those with Ukrainian passports, approved in 2015, enabled them to stay in Georgia without a visa for a one-year period.

In October, the Government also extended its assistance programme for Ukrainian citizens stranded in Georgia by the war to May 1.

Launched last year, the programme includes monetary provisions for accommodation and living expenses, and applies to Ukrainian citizens who have entered Georgia after February 1, 2022.

It also involves those with the right to permanent residence in Ukraine but unable to return to the country due to the ongoing hostilities.
