11 arrested for providing space for prostitution

The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Interior Ministry of Georgia have arrested 11 individuals for providing a venue for and supporting prostitution in the capital Tbilisi.
The Ministry said its investigation had found the offenders had “systematically provided” hotel rooms located on Khizanishvili, Agladze and Chirnakhuli streets in Gldani, Isani and Didube districts to women engaged in prostitution in exchange for money.
It also said the women paid the offenders in cash, and added law enforcement had seized money during their search of the hotels.
The group faces between four and seven years in prison.
The Georgian Interior Ministry intends to sue opposition-minded Formula TV for alleged misinformation and defamation after the media outlet claimed that police officers have been violating their official duties to support prostitution in return for money.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has detained five individuals thanks to an Interpol red notice requested by Turkey. All of the five individuals were detained in the Georgian Black Sea town of Batumi, and will be extradited back to Turkey.
Georgian police have detained a Russian citizen wanted under a red notice by Interpol. The Russian citizen, identified only as A.L., is accused of human trafficking, financial extortion, and engaging a minor in prostitution.
The Georgian Government is actively working to prevent human trafficking in Georgia as a US report states Georgia is "a source, transit and destination country for men, women and children subjected to trafficking in persons, specifically the forced prostitution of women and the forced labour of men, women and children”.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Sunday said its professionals had arrested a foreign citizen on charges of human trafficking in Georgia’s western Zestaponi municipality.
