OSCE Sec-Gen pledges “closer cooperation” with Georgia

Maria Schmid, the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, on Sunday tweeted her organisation shared the Georgian Government’s “continued commitment” to the Geneva International Discussions on the conflicts in the territory of the country and pledged a further strengthening of the existing cooperation.
The OSCE official’s tweet came following her meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

Along with security and conflict matters, the meeting also reviewed the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions and the organisation’s engagement for the peaceful resolution of the conflicts, the press office noted.
The officials stressed the importance of the international and domestic formats set up for discussions of the conflicts - the Geneva International Discussions and meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism.
They also noted Georgia’s role in mediating for peace in the South Caucasus region, with the Government head reaffirming his commitment to ensure “maximum efforts” for peace and stability in the region and his country’s “productive cooperation” with the OSCE.
