Police “mobilised” to ensure safety at Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships - Interior Ministry

The Georgian Interior Ministry on Friday said police crews had been deployed in the ski resort of Bakuriani to ensure safety during the Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships that started on Thursday.

The Ministry said law enforcement officers from its departments were working to ensure enforcement of traffic regulations for a smooth experience for tournament participants and emergency medical crews, while professionals of the Emergency Situations Management Service were also present.

Four security police checkpoints have been set up at various areas in Bakuriani for the event, with firefighting crews and rescuers deployed at two locations.

Ski patrols will protect the safety of holiday-goers on the ski tracks, while criminal police in Bakuriani [will ensure] crime prevention and public order protection measures [...]", the state body also said.

Up to 700 athletes from 42 countries are participating in the Championships running through March 5.
