The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia on Tuesday said it hosted the United States Ambassador Robin Dunnigan and officials from the Embassy for a patrol of the villages of Tvaurebi, Odzisi and Goraka adjacent to the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region in central Georgia.
The Mission said its monitors briefed the officials on “recent borderisation activities and the impact of the restriction of movement on the conflict-affected population”, in reference to activities of the de facto authorities and Russian-backed occupation forces.

The EUMM is the only foreign mission in the country monitoring the occupation lines separating the regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali from the rest of Georgia.
The Mission was deployed in September 2008 following the EU-mediated ceasefire that ended the war between Russia and Georgia the previous month to contribute to “stabilisation, normalisation and confidence building between the conflict parties”.
The Mission has its Headquarters in Tbilisi and operates three Regional Field Offices in Mtskheta and Gori in central Georgia and Zugdidi in the west. It is currently led by Ambassador Dimitrios Karabalis.
