Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, on Tuesday said the country was becoming a member of the Global School Meals Coalition, an initiative aiming to ensure meals for school students across the world by 2030.

Speaking at a presentation of the domestic General Education Reform project, Amilakhvari said the Ministry had formed a “special programme” to identify when schools across the country would be able to provide meals to their students.

He added his office had established “standards based on international practice” with regard to school cafeterias.

The Minister also said ensuring school meals had been a “challenge for many years” across the country, adding solving the issue required “certain steps” from the education system.
