The “strategic” role of joint projects between Georgia and Azerbaijan in transport, energy and logistics was discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and the Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
The officials highlighted the “proper and active” functioning of the Middle Corridor, a multimodal transport corridor connecting China to Europe through the South Caucasus, and noted the “growing” economic cooperation, the Parliament said.

The meeting also reviewed the “positive contribution” of the parliaments to the further strengthening of the existing strategic partnership between the two countries.
The parties emphasised the “close and friendly” relations between the people of the two countries, with the Georgian official extending his gratitude to Asadov for naming a drama theatre in the Qakh District of his country after Ilia Chavchavadze - a Georgian publicist, author and a major figure of the country's 19th century national movement - and for the installation of a memorial board named after Nikoloz Baratashvili, a Georgian poet, in Ganja.
On his part, Asadov expressed “unwavering support” for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and congratulated Papuashvili on the positive decision issued last month by the European Commission to recommend the European Council to grant the country the European Union membership candidate status.
