Tbilisi airport, Anaklia port, Khudoni HPP projects highlighted by PM in 2023 plans

Renovation of Tbilisi International Airport in the Georgian capital, construction of Anaklia deep-sea port on the Black Sea coast and the Khudoni hydropower plant on Enguri River in the north-west of the country were among projects highlighted by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday.
Garibashvili noted the projects at the weekly Government meeting, saying the airport project would involve $500 million in investments this year.
We have the ambition and motivation to have one of the best airports in the region in Tbilisi”, he told the cabinet, adding it would be followed by “expansion and complete modernisation” of Batumi airport in the Black Sea city.
He also said his Government planned to launch the long-delayed Anaklia port construction project - set to involve international investment - this year, with the Ministry of Economy "working actively” on facilitating it.
Changes in the Khudoni HPP project are being explored, he also said, to avoid the plant’s construction necessitating the flooding of the nearby village, graveyard and church.
"The power may be slightly reduced [in the amended project], but our experts tell us that the output may be almost the same”, Garibashvili told cabinet members.
More than $1 billion will be spent on completing suspended hydro power plant projects across Georgia to activate 800 megawatts of supply, while the Government will also announce a tender for the construction of new energy facilities adding 1,500 MW of generation, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at the Government meeting on Monday.
