Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said his Government expected an investment of $400-500 million in two of the country’s three major airports, located in capital Tbilisi and the western city of Batumi.

Garibashvili revealed the Government had already started work for the purpose, noting discussions at its Economic Council.

“Let's say directly that the existing airport of Tbilisi cannot meet international standards. We want a modern, strong, sound infrastructure with good terminals, business aviation. We want to build new terminals and we have already started active work in this direction”, Garibashvili said.

We will inform the public about the [specifics] later, but in total, we expect an investment of 400-500 million dollars in Tbilisi and Batumi airports. In [the western city of] Kutaisi, we also have an additional vision [for the existing international airport] [where] an additional cargo direction can be developed, and in total, we will receive serious investments”, the head of the Government concluded.
