Georgian officials sent their condolences to the Turkish people following a major earthquake that struck central Turkey and northwest Syria on Monday, killing over 500 and injuring hundreds.
In her tweet over the deadly earthquake, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said the country stood with the people of Turkey in this “difficult time”.
“I send my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish strength to the first responders on the scene”, Zourabichvili tweeted.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili extended his “deepest condolences” to the Turkish people on the loss of lives.
“Our thoughts are with the affected families and the entire nation during this difficult time”, he said.

Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said it was “shocking” to hear of the destructive earthquake.
“It is nothing short of shocking to hear of the destructive earthquake in Kahramanmaras. My deepest condolences to our Turkish friends and wishes for a swift and speedy recovery to all injured”, he noted.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.9 struck the southern part of the country early on Monday, tremors of which were felt in several neighbouring states as well.
Turkey's disaster agency said 284 people had been killed and 2,323 injured, while a Syrian health official said more than 237 people had been killed and some 600 injured in the country.
