Taking to his social media account, the head of the Government also pledged “any necessary assistance” to the neighbouring country in dealing with the consequences of what was the largest quake on record for the past 80 years.
The earthquake struck just after 4 am local time on Monday, 23 kilometres east of Nurdağı in Gaziantep province, CNN cited the United States Geological Survey as saying.
The city is located near the Turkey-Syria border, with the shockwaves felt in several countries of the region, including Syria and Lebanon, with the latest figures putting the combined death toll in Turkey and Syria at 568.
