Ilia Darchiashvili, the Georgian Foreign Minister, on Friday said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s address to the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai would be focused on “pertinent issues” related to climate change.

Darchiashvili told the press on the sidelines of the international event that officially opened earlier during the day the address was going to be “interesting”, highlighted the PM’s “active engagement” in the annual Conference, and stressed the “crucial importance” of climate-related concerns for his Government.

He noted the country was “steadfastly working” alongside the international community to implement “specific measures” aligned with its commitments, and added the efforts collectively contributed to addressing global climate challenges.

Paata Kalandadze, Georgia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, on Thursday said this year’s event was “unparalleled in scale” with over 70,000 foreign delegates and would feature top officials from 160 states.

COP28 will run through December 12 and will also feature leaders of business and finance and representatives of the civil sector.
