Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday said the ongoing 30th Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe had voiced “strong and supportive” messages for Georgia.

In his remarks over the event, Darchiashvili noted it was “always important and necessary” for the country to participate in the body’s Ministerial.

The OSCE is the largest organisation working on security matters. Accordingly, we have a very strong, long-standing partnership, cooperation both with the organisation and with the organisations that are under the umbrella of the OSCE”, Darchiashvili said.

“We heard many strong, supportive messages towards our country, towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country from our partners [and] ministers who attended this meeting”, he pointed out.

The problems related by the occupation [of the country’s regions by Russia] were [also] reviewed. Therefore, today was a very successful day in the sense that there was once again unity from the partners regarding our problems”, the official continued.

The top Georgian diplomat also commented on claims by a part of the domestic opposition that Darchiashvili had “sat together” with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, at the event.

The OSCE is the largest organisation that works on security matters, and I do not understand the groundless hype created by opponents in Georgia”, he noted.

Darchiashvili added his Government was using “all opportunities and platforms where possible to pursue the country’s interests”.
