Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said the country’s Government “highly valued” the efforts of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe for a peaceful resolution of conflicts in the South Caucasus region.
In a press conference following his meeting with Pia Kauma, the President of the body, Papuashvili noted the Government had been “productively and successfully” cooperating with the Parliamentary Assembly “for years”.
On the backdrop of the current complicated geopolitical situation, the OSCE encounters numerous challenges as a result of the [ongoing] Russian aggression in Ukraine. I affirm the commitment of Georgia to facilitate effective functioning of the organisation on the basis of the values, around which it has been established”, Papuashvili said.

The chief Georgian legislator also reaffirmed the commitment to remain “devoted” to the “years-long” tradition of holding “free, transparent and fair elections” in the country.
The meeting between the two officials focused on “current developments” in the region and Georgia’s efforts for being granted the European Union membership candidate status, the Georgian Parliament said.
The officials also highlighted the importance of regional peace and the role of Georgia in developing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
