The existing close cooperation between Georgia and Austria and the important steps taken by Georgia towards the European Union membership were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Claudia Arpa, the President of the Austrian Federal Council.
The European Commission’s positive recommendation to the European Council last week to grant Georgia the EU membership candidate status was also reviewed by the officials, with Garibashvili noting the decision was “a clear recognition” of Georgia’s “intensive work and achieved results” on the path to European integration.

The conversation also touched on the prospects of further deepening the close friendly relations between the two states, the Government Administration said.
Garibashvili thanked Arpa for her country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and European path, and expressed hope that Austria would continue to support the country’s European aspirations in the future as well.
