The Georgian foreign office on Friday said Belgian police had not confirmed the killing of a Georgian transgender woman in the country, following media reports of the alleged crime.

The response follows reports by some Georgian outlets who on Thursday said Lisa Kistauri, a resident in the northern city of Antwerp, had been killed through torture.

The information has not been confirmed by Kistauri’s family, with the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics also urging local media to refrain from releasing unverified information due to “no official source” confirming the incident.

The Ministry also told Agenda.ge it was “in constant contact” with Belgian police over the matter.
