The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office on Thursday said it had filed charges against two individuals for “premeditated murder” of a vendor at Tbilisi’s Lilo Mall in the summer.

The third alleged offender in the case, earlier charged for attempted premeditated murder, has been charged with attempted murder following the death of the victim in mid-August, the body added.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said one of those charged currently had extorted money from vendors in the Mall “in the name of criminal authorities” while living abroad, and had planned the murder after one of the victims rejected their demands.

With the engagement of an associate in Georgia, the individual handed a weapon and money to a hired assassin, who later shot the vendor twice in the head and fled the scene.

The crime is punishable by 16 to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
