The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency on Saturday confirmed the death of two Georgian sailors in Greece.
One of the sailors died in hospital on November 2 after he got injured performing his duties at the Igoumenitsa Port, where the ship was undergoing repair works, the Agency told the Public Broadcaster.
The body also noted the second Georgian sailor had died on the same ship “as a result of an accident” on October 26.
The Agency said it worked with the Georgian Foreign Ministry and the country’s Consul General in Trabzon Gela Japaridze, adding the representatives of the body were sent to Greece to observe the situation directly.
The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency on Tuesday said a group of three sailors, including two Georgian citizens, had been kidnapped from a ship anchored in territorial waters of Gabon during the previous night.
Georgian sailors saved the lives of 10 migrants from an inflatable boat in the Atlantic Ocean last week, Georgian media outlet Batumelebi Netgazeti reported on Monday.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Sunday said the Georgian sailors, who had been kidnapped from a ship anchored in the territorial waters of Gabon, were released from captivity as a result of “continuous” efforts of the Ministry, the Georgian Embassy in South Africa and the Maritime Transport Agency.
Three fishermen in Mexican territorial waters were rescued on Thursday by a crew of a vessel involving Georgian sailor Armaz Ardzenadze after the group’s boat filled with water and stranded its occupants, the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency said on Tuesday.
The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia on Thursday told the Georgian Public Broadcaster search and rescue efforts were ongoing to find the sailor from the country who was reported on Wednesday to have fallen off a ship in Black Sea waters 60 nautical miles off the Romanian port of Constanța.
